Seismic review highlights deep-lying potential of West Malvinas basin

Ahead of the official opening of the West Malvinas basin for leasing, Spectrum’s Steve Devito, Neil Hodgson and Karyna Rodriguez wrote in the September 2018 edition of Offshore Magazine about the hydrocarbon potential of the area.

The government of Argentina has now opened the West Malvinas Basin for leasing to qualified operators, with an official license round closing date in April 2019 (revised since this article was first published). In conjunction with this, Spectrum’s new state-of-the-art 2D seismic data acquisition and processing is designed to illuminate the oil and gas potential of this large frontier basin offshore Argentina. This overlooked area, separated from a major producing basin by a structural arch and lying in shallow to moderate water depths, is receiving renewed attention from E&P companies.
