Kosmos Energy has announced that the recent Tortue-1 well in Block C8 offshore Mauritanian has encountered additional hydrocarbons in the deeper Albian stratigraphy.
According to preliminary analysis Tortue-1 well has encountered 10 meters of hydrocarbon net pay in the Lower Albian section which is interpreted to be gas. Strong amplitude of this interval is also recognised on Spectrum 2D PSTM. This is in addition to the previous 107 meters of net pay encountered in the Cenomanian which was the primary objective.
The presence of additional gas at this new stratigraphic level has de risked the primary reservoir targets both in the Albian and underlying Aptian and similar future prospects. This is an exciting new discovery as it will open the area up to a new play concept and de risked the deep water channels and basin floor fans along the deep NW African Margin.
